Unknown gunmen on Thursday invaded the Palace of the Obadu of Ilemosho, Oba David Adegboyega, and kidnapped him unchallenged.
According to information it was gathered that the incident happened in Oye Local Government of Ekiti state, at about 8:30pm on Thursday.
It was learnt that the armed men waited near a bush close to the Palace before they struck. According to sources, some people who visited the Monarch had just left the Palace before the incident took place.
It was learnt the kidnappers gained access into the Palace by jumping the fence. When they came in, they fired shots into the air and whisked away Oba Adegboyega.
A resident of the community narrating what happened said: “Yes, His Highness has been kidnapped. Baba was abducted right in his palace by gunmen numbering about 4 who forcibly gained entrance through the fence.”
“In the process of shooting, they gained entrance into the bungalow where the traditional ruler and members of his family were and started beating them.”
“They were asking after the monarch, which showed that they really came for him and not any other person.”
“Immediately they sighted him, they dragged him and took him out of the palace.”
The source said that the incident has made a lot of people afraid, adding that some have packed their loads and are already looking for where to run to.
Meanwhile, Spokesman of Ekiti Police Command, ASP Sunday Abutu confirmed the kidnap of the Monarch. He described the incident as unfortunate and regrettable.
He said the State Commissioner of Police, Mr Tunde Mobayo, had already ordered Police to intensively search for the kidnappers in a bid to rescue the Monarch.
