Professor Mahmood Yakubu has been sworn in for a second term as the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

reports says that Yakubu said elections in the country are getting better. He added that recent ones have shown that future polls would be better than the previous ones.

He said this after the swearing-in ceremony which took place at the Council Chambers, State House in Abuja.

Yakubu said the elections in Nigeria will continue to get better and better.

The Senate had on Tuesday, December 1, confirmed his appointment as chairman of the electoral body, a development the former executive secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) described as a “privilege.” he added

“It is a big responsibility. It is history. No Nigerian has been so privileged to serve as chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission twice. And it is a responsibility I am going to discharge consistent with the oath of office I took.”

The upper chamber received the request on Tuesday, November 24, and was read on the floor by the president of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan.

In a related report, the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday, December 7, said that its massive victory in the recently conducted by-elections shows that Nigerians accept the ruling party and its government.

The APC deputy national publicity secretary, Yekini Nabena, said APC’s electoral victories in seven of the 11 states is a strong indication of President Muhammadu Buhari’s popularity among the people in spite of the warped narrative opposition tries to sell.
