The Nigeria Police Force, Abia State Command has confirmed the arrest of seven members of Indigenous People Of Biafra, IPOB in Aba the commercial hub of the Abia.
It was gathered that IPOB members took to the street on early hours on Monday to protest the wanton and incessant killing of Christians and the IPOB members in the country.
The IPOB members numbering over 150 took off from the popular Ala Oji Flyover in Ugwunagbo Local Government Area and terminated at SAMECK junction of Ariaria International Market.
However the protest turned chaotic when the protesters approached SAMECK junction. It was reported that the protesters met heavily armed security personnels where sporadical shooting was heard in an attempt to disperse the protesters with some of the IPOB members injured.
The commissioner of Police in the state, CP Janet Jegede confirmed the arrest. She said the police in Aba will transfer the members to the police Headquarters on Tuesday 9.
In her words the police boss said
“I am aware that some IPOB members were arrested, but I don’t know the actual number. They will be bringing them to Umuahia (Police Headquarters) tomorrow. By tomorrow, I will have the exact number of those arrested,”.
She urged member of the public to go about their lawful business as the police authorities are on top of security in the state.
Meanwhile the Nnamdi Kanu, the Supreme leader of the IPOB on Monday also stated that he’s committed to liberate the people of Biafra not to fight any tribe in the country and also condemned the recent killing the southern Zaria.
The IPOB leader stated this on Monday broadcast. He said
“I am against the slaughtering of Christians from Southern Zaria. I am against the persecution and killing of people from any ethnic group in Nigeria. That is what we are against.
